Human Resources

The human resources department (HR) of a company is responsible for securing job applicants, checking their credentials, hiring them, and training them. Moreover, it is responsible for the administration of employee benefit plans. As the business environment changes rapidly and the demand for quality employees increases in the 21st century, Human Resources play an increasingly important role.

While Dhaval has very limited experience working in the HR field, he provided us with information about what happens after an employee is hired in his department as an office administrator. Dhaval's responsibility is to ensure that he has all of the administrative work and information of the new employee, which means he must know and do the following:

  • Enroll the employee in the department they were hired in. Dhaval must first contact the employee to gather the information he needs to make the employee's offer letter, which can include their bank information and putting their hours in the system.

  • Dhaval must then create an offer by the payroll start and end date.

  • Once Dhaval has finished, he must then have his manager sign the offer letter for further approval.

Resume Skills: Things to avoid when making a resume:

  • Do not provide what is not needed; just to keep your resume short and organized.

  • Do not go over 2 pages when making a resume.

  • Unnecessary personal information.

  • Details about your hobbies and interests.

  • Passive language and negative comments about a former employer.

Dhaval gave us an insight into how he organizes his resume. He typically starts by listing all of the skills he has that are necessary and required in the field he is applying for from his master copy of his resume. For some of the skills listed on his resume, he mentions that he needs to indicate why that particular skill is relevant to the job on the resume. As Dhaval points out, it's also helpful to review the job duties of a job when applying. This will enable you to understand what they are looking for and what your responsibilities will be if hired.
